In Barakaldo there is a green space that breathes the city: Ramón Rubial Botanical Garden. The “Protect yourself a plant” initiative arises from the collaboration between the Jardin and the Natural Classroom of Barakaldo. The aim of the initiative is to work with the students of the city's schools the knowledge about plants and their growth process, which they will teach in the most practical way: it will be the students themselves who will plant and care for the plants.
Throughout the year, students from Barakaldo schools already make visits to the Botanical Garden, but this year’s novelty will be to plant by the park and take care of the plantations. It will be carried out with the collaboration of the garden gardening team. The organizers believe that the new initiative will allow students to learn how to identify plants and see plants and trees grow and flourish that they have planted themselves can awaken their curiosity.
It will be 23 groups of students who will be responsible for making the plantations throughout the month. They will be students of Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education. From Natur Gunea have stressed that, in addition to the school, the garden is an open space, students can go to see what they have planted themselves, on their own, with their friends or with their family.
Launched since 2014, the Nature Classroom of Barakaldo is organizing initiatives and projects related to the environment and sustainability for both students and the general public. The building itself is also built with sustainable materials – wood and glass – and is bioclimatic and ecoefficient.
The other great richness of the Nature Classroom is its location: Ramon Rubial is located within the Botanical Garden. It opened its doors in 2002, and over 300 species from all over the world have been planted on its 60,000 square metres plot. A nice class to carry out the initiative they have organized with the students of the schools.
