This is the mantra that we hear over and over again. “The policy is to reach agreements.” In my humble opinion, this is terrible damage. In any case, politics has become a trade fair of principles. The electoral programs are now like the role of smoking and disappear into the knives of a couple of meetings: “In order to reach an agreement with A we have had to abandon some of our proposals…”. Who else would give, who else would undo what was promised on the excuse of the agreement.

The policy is also to seek consensus, but not in any way. Agreements can be good, or an absolute antithesis of politics and denial of values. Politics is to make a proposal to the citizens, to set a course and to try to bring the people in that direction from the public authorities. It is an ideological practice linked to objectives.

Reaching agreements always sell us as something positive, even with what's at the other end of your idea. However, the interests of the parties do not always coincide with those of the citizens who voted for them. The basis of the agreements is often not programmatic or subordinate to certain objectives. It is aimed at the acquisition or maintenance of power. So things, the best of the smelters is going to be victorious. Margaret Thatcher said: “Consensus is to stop believing, to ignore all principles, values and policies. That is, no one believes in it and no one hinders it.”

In this legislature, the first agreement between the PNV and the PSE-EE and, above all, between the PNV and pp have been the most controversial. But the thing is simple, pp needs the PNV to get ahead of the budgets, but also the PNV needs pp in the Basque Government. This decision has been taken a long time ago. From there the makeup and hypocrisy. How can we explain to voters the defence of what is in principle contrary to their values and interests? How to justify this dissonance between being and behavior? What can be avengable? Now the quota, now the investments, now the tax reform, now pensions. It is that availability that is negotiating until the last moment. What do you do to explain to your audience? Why don't they say they need each other and they're already there? The PNV must be given the ability to sell and, above all, to communicate what is very difficult to sell. Basque agenda and Basque agenda.
