Azucena Vieites García (Hernani, 13 June 1967) lives in Madrid and is a professor in Salamanca and Complutense. At one time, he taught workshops for children, he said that he studied more than he taught. The works were placed in the individual exhibition held at the Reina Sofía Museum, in which the children were instructed to give their drawings and paint. At the end of the exposition, each child took their work home.

He liked the ability to surprise, the lack of conviction, the freedom, the ability to build the language from the way children are painted. His work has always had similar characteristics. It sews with surprising freedom the fragments it has taken from here and there, always using codes of contemporary visual culture, intervening in images, making collages in many cases. He has drunk from the fanzines and the Zuk-uz-egin culture, he is noticed at work.

Feminism has been one of the axes of the work of Azucena Vieites. In 1994 he and Stibaliz Sadaba created the Reaction/Reaction collective and worked for many years as the epicenter of Arteleku. There they organized, in 1997, Just for your eyes: a seminar workshop on the feminist factor in the visual arts, which later left the leash. It was a milestone for many people in the feminist debate in the art world.

The artist tries to catch in her work the time in which she lives, especially the visual culture, which collects images from here and there, shapes them, cuts them, modifies them, reproduces them in another way, gives another meaning to the world with her work.

The artist knows this well: the images are built. And the ones that seem natural are the ones that are most built, the ones that are presented as otherwise, the ones that bring us as normal. It is not just about demonstrating that they are built, but about breaking and forcing them to say something.
