For the second consecutive year, the Txakinarto de Plentzia Consumption Group has organized an agroecological fair. It will be held on 20 May.
“We don’t want to be a group focused exclusively on our consumption. We intend to influence people and people’s minds,” says Gotzone Butron, a member of Kamiruaga. Butrón has considered that the fair is a tool for citizens to know the producers and their products and to offer the people other forms of consumption.
What will be found on 20 May in Plentzia? Well, almost everything. Meat, bread, eggs, vegetables, jams, beers, pizzas, pasta, cosmetics… The usual producers of the consumption group participate mainly in the fair, but they are also open to others. From 11:00 a.m. to 15:00 p.m. there will be street concerts, live radio show, fair trade tasting and flower and herb mandalas workshop. This year the village bars will also participate in the fair, offering special pintxos made with local products.
In addition to the fair, the Txakinarto Consumption Group organizes year-round trips to producers in the area and tastings with their products. Direct contact with producers is, in their view, the best guarantee for quality products: “We believe that organic production is a compromise. The seal is not mandatory for us, as we have watched closely how our producers work, we know it.”
