Stoner blues rock hot
In fact, quartz is a hard mineral, very hard. According to the meaning of the name, what the Kuartz duo does is also hard, dense. Through hard rock sounds, stoner rock and blues rock build a strong and violent sound wall, imposing, with big wild guitar riffs, distortion, repetitions and strength.
They are hot melodies, alive, and the songs are not long (they are seven songs of three or four minutes in total), so the whole album is heard right away, without noticing. In addition, samples are used in public performances to create connections between songs, to perform functions uninterruptedly and to be lighter.
They're just two musicians, but listening to the songs looks like they're more. Skilled musicians, and although they only use two instruments, they create beautifully rounded melodies. Ibes Mongabure (guitar and main voice) and Oihan Delavigne (drums and voices) are from Labastida (Nafarroa Beherea). Before starting at Kuartz, they worked in the Inguma and Urmurao groups. They started playing together in 2016 and their first work was published in March 2018.
In the songs they make a social critique and also expose their concerns, their relationships, their existence: “In the media trash you rot the words, you get rid of your organic sense and you get a disinterested fight” (Xutik hil), “Destroy to redo, as far as I want, the other doesn’t matter” (Destroy), “You need to pick up the moment, and fear, they emit” (The story continues), “This bridge that goes through the past is the present.”
These days they're really busy presenting their disk, doing performances. In April they acted in the gaztetxes of Hendaia and Uztaritze, in Baigorri also in the Nafarroaren Eguna, in the gaztetxe of Zumaia they also played on 4 May, and in the coming weeks they will do more, here and there. Without a doubt, experiencing firsthand the sound wall they create and seeing how they do it will be a special sensation.
