It is the first theater play by Itxaro Borda, Odolak Gabe Brillan and the theme it deals with is the “Basque conflict”, decisively, rabid, direct, raw. The old phrase chosen for the title refers to the family connection; to the tendency to the known and to the difficulties to change; to the passion for what you love.
People usually speak clearly when they meet with their peers on the street, in the bar or in the plaza, and those are the places the author has chosen and brought to paper. To do this, he has resorted to theatre, along with Bertsolarism to the literary genre closest to oral expression, improvisation, closeness between people and interaction.
The reading is uncomfortable, unpleasant, as it is a taboo subject or care, as despite the new times the conflict is still alive, but the characters speak with no hair in their mouths on these pages. Among other things, we can read: “You talk too much: the Basque good pays attention to what he says … how he says … with whom he says … to whom he tells …”.
It does what it does in its previous work: the Basque identity, the Vasquity, bringing and rebuilding the Basque nation within the current framework. But, unlike what has been done so far, the hegemonic discourse (which in its previous work has looked from the border and the peripheries to the Basque identity and has now given the speaker to the voices of the different spaces of the Basque community).
The theatre has given him a good opportunity to do so, to put the protagonists in dialogue, in favor and against the Abertzales, the prisoners, the politicians... Thus, to complete what we call story or story, he has put his number in the current work.
In fact, to those of us who have been part of our recent history, we are asked indirectly to make our experiences known. Because the staff is political, because “fossilized discourses” have to be overcome, because micro-stories also constitute reality or truth.
Perhaps we can take advantage of this work to deconstruct ourselves and look critically at the nation as we are doing with gender; to break the inertia of the years; to put into dialogue the oppressive “Basque” and the oppressed “Basque”.
