Esti Redondo, from Etxalde, explained that the objectives of the group are to integrate the struggle for food sovereignty into the feminist movement and to make the peasant movement more feminist, among other things: “Among our projects was to make auzolans, because we believe that auzolans are a good way to bring together feminists from towns and cities and feminist baserritars into one space.”
On this bridge between the urban people and the hamlet, the Auzolans serve not only to keep up with each other, but also to recognize the work of each other, as well as to reach new areas and get to know other situations and women engaged in agriculture. It's about creating spaces that turn the asymmetries of power around. If in the autumn auzolan they worked on the Basortu project of Zeberio (Bizkaia) collecting apples, this winter they will move to Antzuola (Gipuzkoa) to help a pastor.
Pastora Josebe Blanco, from Pikunieta, will be in charge of painting her korta in auzolan on 27 January. People approaching will have the opportunity to approach the reality of women working in grazing. Next, they will celebrate a joint meal.
“In the autumn auzolan we gathered together about 15 women, baserritarras from the Zeberium area and feminists who approached from Bilbao. It was a nice day, we picked up many apples in the morning, and then we all ate under the tree, eating and talking, telling what we were doing in one place and in another...” The participants made a very positive assessment and so they decided to go ahead with the dynamic. For each station, an auzolan.
