Another gem
Xabier Montoia brings out another gem. Another selection of nice songs: good, exciting, simple and solid songs. The environments are quiet, the nice melodies, and the songs are very well dressed, to the extent that they have few but enough decorations.
The songs show situations and feelings of feeling intimately: the passage of time, memory, friendship, love, affection, containment, permanence, advancement... The voice and singing mode of Xabier Montoia, helped with notes from musical instruments, transmit all that well, and the songs cause impression.
Ibon Rodriguez, for his part, has played the piano and guitar, made arrangements and prepared the recording. He is the creator of the ten orchestral arrangements of this album, written on paper, and the scores have been best interpreted by Itziar Lertxundi (chelo and voices), Monika Peino (viola), Leire Pikabea (violin) and Xabier Zeberio (violin), under the direction of the sound technician Fredi Pelaez.
I've been waiting for the new album by Xabier Montoia -- the previous one, Bidehuts -- since I have to recognize that I really like what it does, both on records and books, and I love the new album.
He's a great creator, and throughout his career he's created a lot of beautiful songs. Always on vacation (esan Ozenki, 1995) published his first solo album and then composed another six, and on disco has always done something different. He's dressed in pop-rock songs, strong guitars, electronics and many other forms, but all of them are his gaze, his vision and his personality, his inspiration, his way of making songs, his style. Gorraizea is a work that comes from the heels of his previous album, in which, in addition to cello, piano and acoustic guitar, he has used other string instruments.
Public action on the topics of the new work will take place in the spring. We are therefore waiting for those songs to feel them live at the time they are played.
