Since the Durango Fair has become the place of culture, Landako Gunea is not only a place to buy the most recent books and records, but also to show artists and creators. The Szenatokia is not in the same Landako, we will reach this point crossing the river and crossing the streets in the San Agustín Cultural Center. It is a space of performing arts in which, during the Fair, countless works have been represented, mostly in reduced format.
We could not see them all, and on Saturday noon we decided to hold a double session, thanks to the possibility that the marathon dedicated to microtheatre has given us. Programming is a contrast for the public: First, chained on the Net, fast piece, with intense, colorful rhythm. Next, the red heeled shoe, a dark and melancholy theater play.
Since winning the first prize of the Pocket Theatre Contest in 2016, they have participated in various formats: It is a 40-minute play, extended to an hour, now it is also an Internet web-series – all six chapters are displayed on the web www.nomofobikak.eus. In Durango, actors Belén Cruz, Amaia Lizarralde and Olatz Beobide performed a summary piece, each of which lasted 20 minutes.
They only needed the help of an attractive green wig and a simple proverb to offer the public a entertaining program. At a frenetic pace, several sketching scenes on today’s topic were staged: Society depends on the mobile phone, it needs to be connected at all times. The work reflects the nonsense of living tied to the mobile.
Then, the darkness invaded the stage of St. Augustine. The Red Zapata work, directed by Pablo Ibarluzea, led us to the dark bar of a cliff town, in which three characters live in a recurring and unexpected routine. As the voice of the narrator crossed the frustrated plans and the impossible dreams of the protagonists, the destinations of the three gradually became linked.
The red heel shoe is one of those theater plays that, with a very strong script, inspire a lot. The atmosphere generated by the light, the music and the movements of the bodies led us to reports of another time, we almost felt the saltpetre in the skin. The public did not let any sound escape throughout the play, but in the end the work of Mikel Ayllón, Jabi de la Ydalga, Haizea Paris and Igor Arzuaga, among others, was applauded. The double exhibition of the Szenatoki Short Marathon showed us that the Basque theatre is rich and varied.
