First transplants (and rejections)
- This month marks the 50th anniversary of the first successful heart transplant. But the attempts began much earlier.
In the 15th century a. In the seventh century, Hindu physician Sushruta wrote a treatise on aerurberic medicine in which he collected the method of reconstruction of amputated noses, which in those times and territories were usually punished: the skin of the forehead had to be transplanted. Four centuries later, it was noted that Chinese physician Hua To had removed damaged organs and transplanted others that were well. But we do not know the results of these interventions. Surely the sick would not survive, as it would take more than two millennia to start winning the battle against organ rejection.
