Jenisjoplin is Uxue Alberdi’s fourth adult job. In the two collections of stories he wrote, he talked about what's between you and the environment, and he put it in different environments to miss what's known. On the other hand, in two healed novels, he wanted to look at the usual place from the outside, performing a memory exercise with another look.
On the one hand, it talks about the Basque conflict (or conflicts). He does an X-ray of an era, looking at the turn of the century. Nagore Vargas, born in the early 1980s, was diagnosed in 2010 with 28 years of AIDS, the same year that ETA announced it was leaving the guns.
On the other hand, it refers to the Basque identity, trying to draw the current political subject through its characters, events and reflections. “In the name of the class, of the homeland and of sex each one chained his anger against the neighbor. I was really excited about all this,” says Nagore.
All this under the shadow of the Californian musician Janis Joplin. Sex, drugs and rock and roll will be some of the threads, their effects and consequences. The protagonist lives his life intensely, with a political commitment, as does the singer who died at the age of 27 due to an overdose. Nagore, on the other hand, with the diagnosis, will be able to stop and look around and himself.
He will tell us his childhood and youth in the flash until he reaches the turning point. From there it will interspersed with these memories, and thus, the period change will be reflected in the protagonist, saying that we are moving from an epic culture to a culture of vulnerability.
The three chapters will leave us with several photos: the shoots of Basque towns and cities, or the experiences of some travels. In addition, there will also be space for bars, houses, jails, asylums, hospitals, churches, or streets, offering all kinds of locations and conditions.
It wants to show us different ways of life, contradictions and versions of our reality. To do so, it invites us to stay, to look at what has been done so far and what surrounds us, to try a little more, in the words of Jenisjoplin, to live with passion and tranquility, awareness and care.
