Lurrama is the project of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Basque Country, a festival that is organized every year for the sustainable cultivation of the farmhouse. This is the 12th edition of the Irati Exhibition Fair, which will be held between 10 and 12 November in Biarritz (Lapurdi). The organisers have once again prepared a programme for the whole weekend with the aim of boosting the involvement and participation of farmers, citizens and political actors.
The producers participating in Lurrama are committed to sustainable agriculture, in line with the philosophy of the Basque Country Chamber of Agriculture: to promote local development, to use collective production and sales networks, to clearly explain the conditions and forms of production, to work in a way that respects the conditions of production and nature, using few treatments and promoting the diversity of production. These are, among other things, the commitments of the farmers participating in Lurrama.
About 50 producers from Ipar Euskal Herria participate in the fair. However, it would not be possible to take the initiative forward without the involvement of some 600 volunteers. Lurrama is the result of cooperation between citizens and farmers.
In addition to the Basque Country, in the French State, in recent years Lurramak has become one of the invited regions, and since the 2010 edition it has an invited territory or region. This year, Biarritz will have the presence of the farmers of the Confédération Paysanne trade union of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, with their animals and products.
The festival will also have countless activities: animal exhibitions and farm works, talks, children’s activities, competitions, product tastings, round tables, film screenings, concerts… Among the offers of Lurrama is the fame that his kitchen has acquired in recent years: 3,000 meals prepared with quality, seasonal and local productions will be served. Besides what is seen, learned and heard, there will be tasting in Biarritz from morning to night.
