Marie Curie (in the photo) was the first to receive the Nobel in 1903, and received the prize twice. Most of the awards have been in literature, peace and medicine, and 2009 was the best year for them: for the first time she was the award-winning woman in economics, Elinor Ostrom, and in total there were five women – and eight men – on the prize list. However, in the last two years there have been no women in the marsh.
