Is the slow train worth it?
The quick-line project, which has been developed slowly so far, has created a gap between those who support the Government of Navarra. While Geroa Bai is a supporter of infrastructure, EH Bildu, Podemos and Left-Ezkerra have opposed this proposal. As our mind is able to forge such ties, every time I hear the concept of fast train I remember an anecdote: The newly married couple from baserritarras of the early 20th century has moved to Irun to take the train that leads to Madrid. Even though they have never done so, they are very happy that the honeymoon can be the first and last.
“Leave in the morning from Irun and/or overnight to Madrid”. It's a journey as long as the one Txirrita has sung: twelve hours. However, on the day when the boyfriends made the journey, Norteko Ferrokarrila went a little faster than expected. Young people have arrived in Madrid eleven hours after the eta march. And what's the reaction of the couple? Although from today’s watchtower it seems surprising, both are saddened by the journey that has become shorter than expected. It seems to them that an hour has been taken from the journey.
As we have recently learned, the State will assume the full management of the works, arguing that the Government of Navarra does not intend to make progress on this. Although the news is not satisfactory, it has a positive side: it can help reduce the tension generated in the table
The couple who hadn't met the high-speed train certainly knew more about the journey of life than we did about it. We know that we now live very fast, too fast. And we also want to travel from one side to the other, to get there as quickly as possible, thinking nothing but the goal. Also on the train, some electronic shotgun will be placed on the table, continuously looking at the phone, with the helmets placed on the ears. Without heeding the landscape and what we have at our side, all of this is a mere waste of time. In today's society, the pleasure of the journey is forgotten.
And what will be the remedy for the breakdown of four that the train of the future has produced? The future will tell us. As we have recently learned, the State will assume the full management of the works, arguing that the Government of Navarra does not intend to make progress on this. Although the news is not satisfactory, it has a positive side: it can help reduce the tension in the quadripartite. In my opinion, both the pros and cons should focus on the speed of the fast track so far, to show that the discrepancy is not worth breaking. As has been said, the project has been slower than that of the old Plazaola, which united Gipuzkoa with Navarre, here and throughout the State; and in the two years before the end of the legislature, it will barely catch a lot of speed.
