References. Long word, gentleman's word, too long as for most of the time it takes to get it! And I say “generally” because it is not always such a hard process. As for politics, it seems that the way to become someone should ask for ant work, but there are also references that arise from one day to the next. The media is the main tool for this. It's really helpful to show up on the small screen every day.

The ways to turn a fact or a person into news are complex, but they can be summed up into a single word: interest. This interest is binary, it can have for the public and it responds to the editorial line of the media. In general, the second is imposed in the informative keys. It's the power that media ownership holds.

In recent times, among other things, the news items Teleberri and Gaur Egun have been involved in a number of highs related to tourism. They haven't reached the podium in the 35th minute, because that's the monopoly of time, but almost. We have been bombarded in all the last seasons with the number of tourists and the degree of occupancy of the hotels. Implicitly, we are told that tourism is a priority for this people. It may be a prosperous sector, but it has never been the driving force of this people, let alone.

This summer, beyond the number of tourists, there have been protests about the tourism model organized by the youth organizations Arran de Catalunya and Ernai de Euskal Herria. For that reason, it was intended to symbolise the work of young people as a campaign against tourism and tourists. They have also given it a bad name: turismophobia. The negative load of the suffix Phobia is not a mid-night cough of the goat. Phobia is an exaggerated fear that is also associated with mental disorders or illness.

Adds a stupidity shade. In this simplistic and malicious framework of reference, the core is lost: what is at stake is not only the tourism model, but also the country model. In fact, urban planning must be done to make the population of our towns and cities habitable, and some of the decisions taken in relation to tourists contradict this philosophy. This coincides fully with the youth problem: precariousness of jobs, inaccessibility of housing, price increases, etc. ERNAI has endorsed this demand, and it does not seem to have been to the liking of the politicians and the Tertulians here and there. The saying goes: if when you speak, it doesn't bother anyone, that means you haven't said anything. And even more so with youth claims.

When many other initiatives and dynamics have been put in place and have hardly been heeded, it now smells of so much projection. Perhaps in the face of the mass public the message of young people has been blurred, but that does not mean that the campaign has been counterproductive. The fact that Ernai has appeared in the reports over and over again for reasons of tourism has allowed him to earn a reference. It is five years since the Ernai youth organisation was set up, and I am sure that so far many young people would not know what Ernai is and would have no trace of it. Well, thanks to the summer campaign and the dynamics of organized tourism, it has managed to make its name and be known, and the messages and campaigns, that is worth the gold.
