In the last two years, the work of translating feminist texts into Basque has intensified, as is the case of the Lisipe section, launched by the Susa publishing house. On this occasion we will refer to the 3rd edition of this collection: Heterogeneous thought of Monique Wittig.
The texts contained in this book were published for the first time in 1980, and in 1992 translations into English and Spanish arrived. The straight thought, The straight mind and The heterosexual thought became then, and in Basque they have translated the most heterogeneous thought. It is to be welcomed that the word “heterosexual” has become “heterocinium”, as this explains the correct path marked by the “sociopolitical regime” or “symbolic order” of our society in order to awaken the awareness of oppression: “Until the beginning of the struggle, the harsh reality of the oppositions and the political nature of the differences are not manifested.”
For this, it is given to the thought that will serve as the basis for action in the following roadmaps: What is being a woman? What are sex and gender? What is behind the social contract? What is part of humanity and what is not? The author, appealing to the principles of ideology and language to understand reality, concluded that lesbians are not women.
In fact, heterosexuality is the social contract that articulates society and, consequently, there are women and men, just as the slaves and the elderly are, creating a relationship of domination and conditioning from top to bottom the lives of all.
As an “active member” of society, he wanted to analyze the norms and social limits imposed by his time. As a result, subjectivity, agency and empowerment were put into practice, making innovative uses of pronouns.
The contribution of feminist lesbians to the feminist movement of Euskal Herria, as stated in the book Secure genealogy feminist, can be placed especially in the period 1977-1997, as groups, networks and days were organized to reclaim visibility and sexual liberation. It is precisely when Wittig, lesbian and feminist, proposed the aforementioned work of deconstruction. Let us therefore know and reflect on what has been seen and learned by previous generations and bring it to our land.
