If I say that Jon Alonso's work in prose, in his multiple facets: narrative, novel, essay, all possible mixtures between them, is a safe value, I'm not saying anything that I haven't said so far. Another thing is to say that the internal hierarchization of this prose work can be changing. I mean, if in my day I brought Camembert for this space and declared it as a “book to claim”, today I would like to bring Hodei Berdeak, thinking that there are some of Jon Alonso’s best pages. Of course, this is not a competition, if not you can choose between great pages, a huge pagotxa for the reader.

Hodei berdea, therefore, is an interesting book from many points of view for the metalworking game he proposes to begin with: the story begins as a novel – “that novel, so, yes. Or, at least, something in the form of a novel, even if it is not complete and completely finished” – but at that time we will begin to read the notes about this novel – because “I have written these notes or specifications that could complement that false novel”. Finally, to realize that we are reading a book that we supposedly wrote in four hands: “My cousin Xabier wrote the sketch of the unfinished novel, as well as all the observations I have written during the time I was with him in this project, plus those that have come to my head with his draft.”

So, green clouds are an interesting book, not only because of its structure, but also because of the things it reaches. To locate it, chronologically, “came the Aberri Eguna of Pamplona, the artifact placed in the Vuelta a España, the state of emergency. They killed Etxebarrieta." And politically, on the one hand, questions of geopolitics, such as the relationship with the Yankees, “how Franco’s Spain changed from being an enemy to being an important strategic ally”, and more specifically the one that the PNV had, “were useful partners in a time”, but above all interesting, because it talks about the dilemma about violence and the attitude of the different sensibilities in our environment regarding the armed struggle: “At this time when the PNV does not accept the justification of the armed struggle, in which it says that its attitude has always been ‘peaceful’, it is important to remember that this was not its position in the years 1968-69.” Being the general thesis that ours is not something original, highlighting “our part condition, our smallness, our internationality”, and bringing back the idea that has been worn down but has not lost meaning: “Our (...) is like a horrible hangover or a frightening mirage, the result of a historic drunk.”

Hodei berdeak today therefore believes that there are some of the best pages of Jon Alonso, and who knows if at that time back, some of the best pages of Basque literature from the beginning of the 21st century.
