What if we split up?
No, unfortunately it has not been news that the current Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has completed the normalization plan 2013-2017 that regulates the use of the Basque country. I wish it were so! The news has been given by the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, which has ruled against the plan we drew up in the previous legislature. The revenge of the gentleman Urkixo of the Spanish State has materialized. The dream could not be brought to fruition, which began in 2011 and lasted until May 2015. It started against the municipalities of Gipuzkoa, to end its excellent coordinated effort (linguistic criteria for public procurement, free adult Euskaldunization, Euskaldun communication…). The Council was in the spotlight, believing that it was the head of that Basque insurrection, but it could not. In Parliament, we practise our new language policy without changing the previous rule, and at the end of the legislature we approved the decision that would take that policy. Meanwhile, the frustrated champion waited rage.

We made the choice and determination to live in Basque in practice that gave priority to Basque. In addition, we also had socio-linguistic reasons (and we have them), as Gipuzkoa is an Basque territory. To develop a linguistic practice that responds adequately to the Basque reality of the organization, favouring the linguistic choice of the Euskaldunes and guaranteeing the choice of Spanish. And we had political reasons (and we have them) because the main objective of the Abertzales is to reeuskaldunize the Basque Country, and to do so we must establish policies of equity in favor of the Basque Country, “because treating those who are in different situations is not equality, it is injustice” (Ekolingua).
The results were sound and evident: in the hearings and events of the institution dominated the Basque, the simultaneous translation was launched, the students were incorporated into the Euskaltegis, the telephone of the linguistic consultancies rocked many companies, etc.
Now what? For, living in Basque sells it to us as a whim, as if it were a thing of the Basques and only of the Basques.
