On 27 May, the final of the Intervillages of Gipuzkoa disputed in the Ogueta fronton was disputed in Azpeitia. The atmosphere on the fronton Izarraitz was hot and everyone who was part of the championship lived as a great party. Although in the end we were only uploaded to the scenes, it is true that in one way or another we have been many groups that have been feeding the entire ecosystem of Bertsolaris since February.
According to the data obtained, there are 280 participants who have participated in the competition counting bertsolaris, butchers, judges and representatives of each group, to which must be added, of course, those who have left the area; cooks who have prepared meals or who have recorded performances or pasted posters.
The aim of this championship was to promote, strengthen and make visible the Bertsolarism movement in Gipuzkoa. Once these goals have been achieved, it can be highlighted that they have been achieved. Congratulations to all organizers and participants. It has been nice to strengthen the bertso-eskolas network itself.
I believe, however, that the good health of Bertsolarism in Gipuzkoa is not the only consequence that we can draw from this path of months. I would say that this championship has also left some extremes that give rise to reflection and I am going to throw some of them on these lines.
It is known that, according to the way we look, we see what lies ahead of us and that there are more and more pleasant Bertsolaris women in these times when we hear here and there, it seems to me legitimate to look at the newly-finished village with purple glasses. When we talk about gender perspective, we often repeat that data based solely on numbers are never as complete as we would like, that is, that simple quantitative practice does not often allow us to express real asymmetries. In this case, however, I wanted to look at the numbers.
The championship had 280 participants, of whom 68 were women, less than a quarter. Considering the internal functions of each group, 12 and 16 women have served as judges and judges, respectively. In proportion, the role played most by women has been that of the group ' s representative, since in 17 of the 38 groups it has been women who have been in charge of the relationship with other groups and with the Bertsozale Elkartea Association.
The bertsolaris have, however, been the main protagonists of the competition and each team has been made up of up to three or four people. In fact, the proportion of Bertsolaris women has attracted me the most. Of the 135 bertsolaris that have sung, only 23 are girls, playing round numbers, less than 1 in 6. The number is even more significant if one of the initial objectives of the Inter-Peoples is taken into account. In fact, the bertso-eskolas of each place have made a special effort under the umbrella of the group to make the bertsolaris singing that otherwise would not have been animated to the plaza. Thus, there have been few people who have jumped from bertso-eskola, from the party or from the group and have participated in that of the people.
However, looking at the list of names, we will soon realise that all the participants who respond to this new profile are men. Most of the women who participated in this Inter-Peoples also participated in the previous Individual Championship of Gipuzkoa and the rest are those who have participated previously or come from the Intercolar Tournament. There is, therefore, no woman who is not sure whether to do so well in the verses, but who has been given permission not to do so well in public. Moreover, some girls who I know do well because I have heard them sing bertsolaris in colonies or in other more informal spaces have been kept quiet and it should be noted that many of them have played a role as a representative in the group.
The same is true of the Bertsolaris championships in a sacral atmosphere; I am led by the Hernani Bar Championship and also by the Bergara Championship. When the woman is in front of the public, she is still in a field that somehow “does not belong to her”, so it seems that the occupation of this space is justified only if properly acted.
All of this should give us some thought and I believe that the last people have also left us the domestic tasks that we have to do both collectively and personally. There's something to change, and on the path to change, there's also something to think about. For example, in the groups where there were women, how has the work been distributed? How many women have sung in the exercises of Zortziko Txiki and Response to Points related to humor and vitality? How many have decided (or have accepted directly without having decided) that minors or ten-year-olds, related to seriousness and depth, were more suitable for them?
And the numbers don't lie.
In recent years, I have made little progress. I have said it many times, I know, but just in case. Today I attended a bertsos session. “I wish you a lot.” Yes, that is why I have warned that I leave little, I assume that you are attending many cultural events, and that you... [+]
