At a time when new technologies have covered virtually all areas of our lives, several associations wondered what the opportunities for food sovereignty might be. Hence the Etxalde App mobile app that is already underway. The project has been launched by Elikaherria, Bizilur, Etxalde-Agriculture Sustainable and EHNE Bizkaia, with the collaboration of the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation and within the project “Bide Berriak: new communication networks for food sovereignty”.

Understanding the impact
of our consumer decisions

each product according to the criteria that define food sovereignty when making the purchase: if it is a seasonal product, if it is a nearby product, if it has been produced in agroecological principles or if it has been produced in a social and solidarity economy network, explains to the user its influence on the environment.

other hand, Etxalde App also offers a seasonal product calendar. Through geolocation or using the location chosen by the user, informs users of the seasonal fresh products that surround them.“Buying a
local product means supporting the local economy, reducing energy for production and transport and allowing you to enjoy all the nutritional features and flavors,” they say on the application website, stressing the importance of consuming the temporada.La
