There are few groups that in Euskal Herria – if there are others – with few people beside them, pray and practice in solitude for so long in the sea of music. The Male Desvän is from Mondragon, but knowing what it offers, it is not easy to recognize its origin. To do this, we must go back in history: The group was born in the 1980s, in the shadow of punk – and often under threat – of the ashes of a rich but undervalued scene. Desvän, precursor of groups such as Matron Impudica and Cutlery Juices and Stranglers and The Cure, were able to chase him, but in the 90s they were quick to surprise and worship him with the offer of Sonic Youth. Before others did it outside the herd, risking on their own path and even if everything was opposed, they continued ahead, always with clear ideas and loving what they did.

He has always been the group’s creator and guide, JG Izcue. In addition to the birth of the mentioned group, in a long season he was also part of the Cancer Moon group, which together with Iñaki Bengoa founded El Leprosario with the music of his colleague Leopoldo María Panero.

However, from 1989 to the present, El Desvän del Macho is immersed in the trio and although we do not see it from time to time in the scenarios, the group continues to do its live pints. These days he has published Funeral Economy, his fifth long album.

In 1993 he published Sister violence, a virtuosity of post-punk and darkness that can marry pop and that we could also consider an antecedent of the industrial, with the label Nuevos Medios. Three years later, with a lifelong concert with the Alehop record, he published Lumbar in a more pop-rock suit, but it includes intensity and discomfort. After a long lethargy, in 2008 they broke with Vida from the egg and published the most popular album until then, although in the direct ones a post-hardcore touch was added. Thus, the 2013 Simplicis album collected the advanced effects (Today is The Day, Unsane...).

Now Economic Funeral has been lowered in the crudety, not in the words, brand of the group, and has added the change of rhythm to the games, the elegance, the horseback and the penetrating bass, the cadences of Primus (The chastity of the omoplate), the wealth of Mike Watt (Balido felwas able), the essence of post-rock (Ustrock the or the cow).
