Fable of two songs
The song Haurtxo ederra cot has a very naughty story. Melody has been known since time immemorial, like I. In the Great War, for example, French soldiers were singing as a military march, with a sharp and lively pace.
Gabriel Olaizola, while preparing the organization of Saski Naski in Donostia, changed the rhythm and, at the proposal of the Hondarribitarra Txomin Sagarzazu, withheld the words of his brother Klaudio. Radio San Sebastian offered for the first time as PNV 8 in the program The Basque Tuesdays, harmonised by Gabriel José's brother. Pepita Enbil in one voice and accompanied by a choir of eight men, the Otxote.
The song was successful inmediato.La in Saski since 1928 and Eresoinka (*), besides dedicating it to the programs, recorded it on the record, being the only Pepita Enbil.

In the past, the bertsolaris often used this sound, also known throughout Europe. Xenpelar spread throughout the 19th and 20th centuries to sing verses dedicated to the martyrdom of Santa Barbara. The redhead Txomin Sagarzazu retouched his brother's upper verses. It opened up among the crowd. In the years after the war, José María Zapirain, a music professor at the Seminary of Vitoria, commissioned Ramón Intzagarai, priest of San Vicente de Donostia-San Sebastián, to place the Christmas verses and to harmonize for the choir the interpreter organ of the same church, Luis Urteaga. Thus was born the star of the night, which the priests spread to all corners of the Basque Country through the Birth and the Olentzero. It also contributed to the publication of the seminar press in a collection. That day is the best known.

Lessons from the phable of two songs:
1) That since ancient times we have been very European Basques in terms of music. 2) That melodies last longer than words. 3) That more important than melody is rhythm and intention.
4) That the Basques made the march of war a sweet crib song, and of the verses of martyrdom a song of Gabon which we were glad. 5) Perhaps we can continue along the same path.
