The latest data of the month of March published in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country on employment and unemployment have served to take the mask back to the savage capitalism of Hego Euskal Herria, represented by the patrons Cebek and Confesbask. They are glad that the employment rate has grown a little, but they have concealed its low quality: provisional, precarious and with a very low wage.
Contracts signed have a duration of less than one month. In the last month, 106,690 contracts have been concluded, of which 97,921 have been temporary, of which only 8,769 are indefinite. And the average affiliation to Social Security has barely experienced an increase of 5,107 people. It is not said that there are still 178,000 unemployed in Hego Euskal Herria and of them, 60.6% do not receive any kind of benefit. They do not seem to be very concerned that the most unemployed are women, young people and people over 55.
They have asked the public administration to act “with care and affection” with their companies and to leave “shame” when it comes to social budgets. In other words, they have called for incentives, more subsidies and deductions in corporate tax to promote their business, because it is they who create employment, even if it is temporary and precarious.
The Administration, which until now is the manager of the Capital, must decide how to act: at the service of this minimum capitalist that imposes a low quality of employment, or in favor of the social majority that Basque society shapes. The administration would have to do “loves” and remove “shame”, but for the benefit of the majority of the citizens, who live with their resources, taxes, both. That is how we will achieve decent employment.
