I know that in today's journalism, as in many other areas, work is precarious. In addition, because of the speed at which we live, the news has to be produced faster than fast. In case that was not a bad thing, or perhaps because of that, most media workers are relatively young, and the university of life has not yet taught them much. These, and probably others, will be the reasons for the lack of professional rigour that we are suffering today.

Every day, or almost, I find some examples that can be mentioned both in Spanish and in Euskera, without taking into account the spelling or grammatical errors I mentioned earlier. I am more furious than a press consumer, whether on paper or on screen or on waves, but I often feel too rabid, in the other sense of the word. For example, I was recently watching Aragonese television (I have already said that I am an atypical Basque), when I heard that he sang in the Kafe Nervión de Bilbao, I do not know who, around 1930, and there appeared some images of the bar Kafe Nerbión, currently between the streets Naja and Bia de Mayo. This guest house opened in the 1980s, ladies and gentlemen! The place where the journalist was located was in Calle Navarra, and has long disappeared. I didn't even know her, and I'm 60 years old. But the journalist was given five laps, what he wanted was, in one way or another, to give him and edit the information as soon as possible.

Another example. Last week I read/saw/heard by many means that the famous artist Manolita Chen had just died (I have already said that I am an atypical Basque). Of course, this woman, married to a Chinese and who had been the owner for many years of an itinerant theatre, had previously been a transsexual, much younger than him, and had used her name to compete in another theatre in a kind of dispute, although she did not succeed. Well, I had to read in some newspapers that the transsexual Manolita Chen had died, with the photo of the latter! You can already imagine how my daughter would be installed!

But what strikes me the most is, among other things, what I most support, the need to listen to or read the “first”, the “last”, the “only” and the epithets of a totally exclusive nature. If age teaches us something, it's that for the first time nothing happens, or that there are few people who are the first to do something. Or the last one. Or the only one. But of course, young people think that the world has started with them.
