Lights and shadows of the future
Mayi Pelot died on 6 October and with this criticism I would like to pay a small tribute to him. He cultivated science fiction in two of the works that we know him, which in his day was not common: In the criticism made to him by Xabier Mendiguren “it is noteworthy that, apparently, Mayi Pelot is the only Basque writer who works science fiction.”

It is a work that can be seen from many points of view, from the environmentalist to the destruction of the land; from the feminist through networks between women, if we analyze the class and the struggle between groups of people in relation to the nation. In the criticism made by Mikel Antza it can be found that “it is not a literary genre and a book to escape from reality”, but an invitation to reflection.
Even though conflict and death are very present, Pelot wants to open the door to hope, because in the future, the new generations will be able to do it better by conserving memory and building a new world.
