What are the actors, besides being people who get into the hair of others? For many they are beings living in the Olympus of luxury and fame. Being and not being human. So when a Basque film is shown at the festival, we want to see the Basque actors stepping on the red carpet, elegant, because the situation requires it, and smiling, because crushing it is a necessary happiness. Far away, we imagine them above, and we think they're not the same when we see them in the checkout line at the supermarket, trying to calculate in a sad and dark way the balance that will be left on the credit card.
A few days ago I was in the Amarauna program of the Basque Country Irratia to talk about the lack of work of the actors. Not long ago, I don't think I had the courage to write this, I spent two or three very bad years. Without a job and tired of his throat, when he met the people on the street, and against the habit, he answered “very badly” to the question “how are you?” His face was filled with wonder and discomfort. “But you… it is not possible.” Surely you would think you would live in Olympus, if not ETB. “No, you may not have a job,” he continued.
