At the beginning of the twentieth century, the international socialist movement was divided between the supporters and opponents of war. A century later, things haven't changed much. The mobilisations against the 2003 war were very important. Around the world, millions of people took to the streets to protest the invasion of Iraq. Behind it was the imperialist attitude of much of the Western Left, supporting the illegal NATO war against Yugoslavia in 1999.
Since then, the United States has learned a great deal. Despite the proliferation of imperialist interference by NATO members, the mistake has not been repeated in Iraq. They continue to violate international laws with bombardments and military invasions at all times, but proxy wars delegated to attacks on countries that now want to control have gained prominence. Tens of thousands of foreigners fought against the sovereign state of Libya and tens of thousands stood up against the sovereign state of Syria. The involvement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, the United States and NATO countries in the Middle East wars is impressive, occasionally supporting al-Qaeda and ISIS or directly or indirectly arming NATO. In one way or another, it has also been approved by General Clark, Senator McCain or Hillary Clinton. It is not new that Anglo-American imperialism has been using Islamist extremism for centuries.
On the Western Left, hegemony has been taken by the imperialist stance. According to this, our political systems are above all those in the world, it is we who maintain individual rights, civil liberties and democracy properly. As at some time it was justified to invade and control countries under the excuse of bringing God or socio-economic development, now the hegemonic left is playing the same game with the mantra of democracy and civil liberties.
However, like a hundred years ago, on the left of the West, hegemony has been taken by the imperialist stance. According to this, our political systems are above all those in the world, it is we who maintain individual rights, civil liberties and democracy properly. Just as in the past it was justified to invade and control countries on the pretext of bringing God or socio-economic development, now the hegemonic left is playing the same game with the mantra of democracy and civil liberties. In some cases it has become the vanguard of the mass propaganda of imperialism in Western countries, without believing the evidence and statements of its protagonists and trying to equate the aggressors and the aggressors, who, by the way, do not violate international law.
They want us to mobilize thousands of people and make us believe that in two or three weeks they can get weapons and thousands of wrestlers, although at the same time they want us to believe that this happens in one of the “most terrible dictatorships” in the world. It's no nonsense, they have a wide front. Let them explain to us in another way how it is possible that, without imperialism, with the average ecological footprint of the inhabitants of Qatar, five planets and four with that of the inhabitants of the United States are needed. This is because they control global resources and are prepared to do whatever it takes to destroy sovereign countries and bring them under their control.
However, in the meantime, the left to reassure the consciences has shifted from the cry “No to war” to the motto “Ongi etorri errefuxiatuak”. Thus, in the twenty-first century, the people of Oregon, in the pretension of Otero, rose up and screamed: Of course, it functions as the new Caritas of the twenty-first century, refugees must be properly welcomed, but they are not the result of a meteorological phenomenon, but of an imperialist strategy of the Western countries and their allies. At any given time, alms may be needed to combat poverty, but if you do not explain why it happens and if you do not fight to reverse the situation, you can perpetuate it. The destruction of a country and the eviction of its population is a humanitarian tragedy and the most effective means of removing the sovereignty of that country and impeding its socio-economic and cultural development.
