VI Congress of the CAV How is the bottle of Euskera by the results of the Sociolinguistic Survey?
The bottle was empty. The rate of Euskaldunization is too slow. It is not enough for every year, on average, all Basques to grow by half a point. By making a quick calculation, we will see that it will take one hundred and seventy four years to achieve complete Euskaldunization, if the growth of recent years is maintained (without taking into account other variables, of course). This rhythm could be more intense if you exclude educational models that don't euskaldunize, but that's one of the holes in the bottle in the ass. Model A is a condemnation.
The use data are not arrogant either. In these cases, respondents tend to be politically correct, recognizing a better use than they actually do. Therefore, it does not seem to be a good fact that the use increases only half a point in five years. In addition, the survey shows that the use of Euskera is going backwards in the most Euskaldunes, in line with the studies carried out by UEMA. What is surprising is that the Government wants to relativise this reduction. Many others, on the contrary, have become aware of the damping and have created tools and measures to stop the loss and accelerate its use. It is legitimate to see the half-full bottle, but it would be thanks for a firmer attitude to plug the holes, even by the government that generates the most holes in the Basque bottle.
Half full bottle. No Euskaldunes have been lost and new ones have been won, the chain has not been interrupted. Euskaldunization has been a youthful process, mainly thanks to education in Euskera and the euskaltegis.La active population of the following years will be immediately Euskaldun. A reality to which we must respond with similar rates and effective policies of Euskaldunisation in the administrative, educational, socio-economic, cultural and leisure fields. The whole of the recipient Euskaldunes is also significant and must be seen as an opportunity. Anyone who considers that Euskaldun is not yet “very” must feel, on the part of society, the need and the help to continue to Euskaldunizzar (interlocutors, gratuitousness…). In addition, the tendency of the citizens to promote Euskera is evident, to the disgrace of Idoia Mendia and others.
Therefore, there are the reasons they needed to make proactive use of the Basque country or to establish appropriate linguistic policies. It is about power and the power to plug the holes in the bottle of Euskera and to further expand the source of Euskera. It's time.
