The action of the European Union institutions, including those of Justice, has once again confirmed that this club is at the service of traders, that is, banks and multinationals. Most decisions are taken by their lobbies, against the interests of Europe and the citizens.
Last week, the EU attorney general concluded his non-binding opinion, which was rejected by the European Commission. In the same vein, he points out that the banks of the Spanish State will not have to repay everything charged for the excessive mortgage clauses. The Spanish Supreme Court ruled in a ruling that banks should pay as of 9 May 2013 and Europe insisted that what they should pay back should be after that judgment. This means savings of over EUR 5 billion for the banking sector. The reason? That there are banks that can fail if they get all the money back. It is not taken into account whether what the two million people are asking for is fair or not.
In this way, European “justice” has shown an astonishing sensitivity towards the interests of bankers, not so of the victims of billions of euros of fraud, despite the fact that it has generated a long and terrible list of evictions and suicides, also in Euskal Herria.
The final judgment will be known at the end of the year, but many banks waiting for it have seen it as a victory that has been noted on the stock exchanges. The Europe of merchants works this way, foolishly. Lobbies work for something. This Europe has few concerns in the millions affected by mortgages. Traders like Goldman Sachs do offer jobs to people like former EU President Durao Barroso. The favors are paid and paid well!
