Demarchy
I do not know whether in Athens, when democracy was established, power was in the hands of the citizens. I do not think so. There, too, the elite seemed to have them believe the inhabitants that were in their power for the sake of their rich and homeowners.
The Republic of Rome carried out democracy as a political system, so no one considers it. The Roman elites developed a system of representation, away from their citizens, elaborating their own right, focused on the “bread and circus” in the eyes of society.
Even the absolutists themselves allowed the people to decide things while they were not going against the noble elites and, finally, the word democracy was left in the hands of the naif or cynics, while it was the refuge of the new economic power.
Even today, there are aspects of the system, loyal servants of the elites. One or the other they send in the approved democracies, receiving the title of perverse quality that someone gives them so that they do not know. But beware, they don't let anyone else. And if from time to time they escape, as happened in Gipuzkoa, or now in some state capitals, all forces unite, until the powers and lobbies neutralize the situation.
Someone, not anybody, said that democracy was the best of evil systems, but I think it's actually the worst. On the one hand, where democracy is approved, the economic system feels absolutely secure, protected and covert, as if it had not been, as long as things go well. It is so certain of its duration that it does not give orders or advice to politicians, judges, teachers and intellectuals, trade union leaders, media writers, whether in government or in parliament. Why, because they have internalized the values of the system! In addition, corruption becomes structural, not temporary, because those who are in favor of or around power also need benefits. Everyone believed that.
On the other hand, democracy makes the oppressed believe that they also have something to do with the evolution of society, whether to participate or vote, and therefore hides the perception of oppression. It develops a sense of freedom in those who eat from the soles of the State, in the areas in which they are winning and the worst, in the ordinary population that is seeing the current “circus”.
The word democracy is already used so busy, dirty and frayed and manipulated that it has completely lost meaning and can mean anything other than “the power of the people”. There is nothing more to do with the elite members or assistants who are considered democrats. That is why I am not a democrat.
I propose changing the name to differentiate it: Demarchy: A new and clear word that expresses the true power of the people. Why not?
