More Raw Shades
The Uski’s continues to merge rock and roll, pop rock, surf rock, garage and pop, but it has hardened, crashed and become furious. The songs on the new album are harder, and the sound is more crude and dirty. The components of the group are very easy to create melodies, the voices are important, but in the new work the choirs are not so elaborate and the guitars have taken a greater presence.
All of that has come from within. “Our lives have gotten a little entangled,” they said in the fall when presenting the album, and that has influenced their music. Anyway, they haven't lost their regular animation, their wine, their salt and their pepper, and they've collected a dozen really nice songs on their new album. They have worked in the studies Tio Pete, of Urduliz, with the technician José lastra, and they have done good production work.
Iñigo Eiguren (voice), Jon Zameza (guitar, bass, voices), Anartz Laka (guitar, bass, voices), Oier Laka (guitar, bass, voices) and Iñaki Astoreka (drums) are members of The Uski’s. They are from the towns of Ibarrangelu and Elantxobe, and they sing in the Biscayan that they use in the area.
In words, as always, they speak of small and not so small themes of daily life, of everyday events and situations, of relationships and feelings, but in this work they have made more social and political criticism than in previous occasions: “How, day after day, they buy you everything you want to get rid of yourself, without trash and dreaming of living eternally on the Internet” (Begijek erak), “Mr. I suspect the corrupt smell of those around Bajoi, even though they come to dress as a sheep, the demonic tail of the tart legs” (Mr. Bajoi). “Every morning, every day that starts, your own face appears in my head, how to say, these days of caresses, and get kisses and put them on top” (starting the morning).
