While sleeping in the cashier, a homeless woman died in Donostia-San Sebastián on San Sebastian Day. The event has once again revealed the harsh reality of people living on the street. There is no shelter, and many have no choice but to spend the night in banks, abandoned buildings and other places.

In Euskal Herria there are over 3,000 homeless people, and although most of them spend nights in shelters, many others sleep on the red street. In a night count from 14 to 15 October 2014, 323 homeless people were located sleeping on the street in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. To the same extent, a total of 1,513 homeless people were located in CAV shelters. In Navarre, it is estimated that in total, between 200 and 300 homeless people sleep in shelters. In Ipar Euskal Herria, in 2014 the Atherba Association received 2,400 aid requests, most of them urgent.

For the high, it is difficult to “condition one’s own will”

The mayor of Donostia-San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, stressed in the Basque Country Irratia that the deceased "gave up" social services: “It’s very difficult to condition what everyone’s will is.
