Freedom does not deserve that place.
Throughout history, the most serious massacres have been carried out in the name of freedom. The most admirable feats.
Hitler invaded Poland in an attempt to achieve a vital space for the German peoples (the famous lebensraum, to understand it among us). After all, freedom lived almost in lockdown for a great nation.
The International Brigades went to the Civil War to defend the Republic, with a romantic gesture of anti-fascism, under the banner of freedom. The hymn created by Jarcha in the last moments of Franco was entitled Libertad sin ira. They could not imagine that, in 30 years, UPN would use the same hymn for freedom in the peculiar gigantic demonstration under the motto “Navarra is not sold” of 2007.
ETA means Euskadi ta Askatasuna. The Libertad Ya organization was set up against its attacks.
There was a time (perhaps today too) in which Spain was a big and free one. ; while many others claimed Gora Euskadi Askatuta (Askatuta).
Berlusconi won his first elections through a coalition called Polo delle Libertà. Without leaving Italy, one of the most exciting songs ever composed with the word freedom is named Bandar rossa: “Long live communism and libertà!”
Deprivation of liberty is the euphemism we use when someone is sent to prison. If there's someone who knows what freedom really is -- he's a prisoner. None, according to a song by Andrés Calamaro.
If you put the word Google freedom, it's the first entry to the Digital Freedom website. Is there any deeper contradiction? In the case of tying freedom, a street from Berriozar, located at the back of the best-known brothel of the County of Pamplona. Prostitution, the slavery of our time and our land. The possibility of entering Youtube if we try Freedom. Is this the freedom that we have left?
So things, freedom can be anything, even the opposite. Often, precisely, the opposite of its original meaning.
Perhaps, with this hypothesis one can share the last and fervent attempt to rechristen the plaza of Conde Rodezno of Pamplona. Plaza de la Libertad, replacing the architect Serapio Esparza.
Freedom, then, to honour the bodies of Mola and Sanjurjo, or to declare otherwise? Who knows ... What is freedom? This square will not be free (not even Pamplona) until the Tetriko mausoleum is destroyed.
I do not know if the poor Serapio Esparza deserves a place in Pamplona. On the contrary, I am clear that freedom does not deserve that place.
