The Bilbaina Association of Friends of the Opera, as always, has worked hard this year to advance its new season, number 64. We must insist that they have made a great effort, bearing in mind that they are receiving less and less aid as a result of the crisis. In fact, in this edition they have gone from the seven usual titles to five (also in the previous one); that is, maintaining the usual level and artistic category.
It is clear that an attempt has been made to prepare a very nice and attractive programme. The full edition will be an Italian monograph, without giving room to bets that break the poster of this edition. On the one hand, it is a shame not to have some courage and not to approach the public to other kinds of shows that are rarely scheduled, but, on the other hand, we have to understand that at this moment we are looking for profitability.
On October 24, the play Don Carlo de Verdi, based on the drama of Schille Dom Karlos, Australia von Spanien, will be released. In this historic opera, the mezzo Daniella Barcellone plays Eboli. In November we will have the opportunity to enjoy a less well-known opera: Roberto Devereux de Donizetti. This opera, based on the life of Count II of Essex, Roberto Devereux of the time of Tudo, has a very elaborate music and offers an interesting psychological analysis of Elizabeth I.aren of England.
In 2016 we will have lighter titles (at least in arguments). British soprano Jessica Pratt plays Amina in the semi-serious opera Bellini's sonnambula. In February our star Ainhoa Arteta will perform the well-known opera Manon Lescaut de Puccini, and the season will end with Rossini, Il barbiere di Siviglia.
But with those five operas, the season doesn't end. Along with the great American mezzo Dolora Zajick, along with other soloists, we will be able to hear the spectacular Messa da Requiem de Verdi.
As in previous editions, ABAO maintains the Opera Berri initiative, with the aim of approaching new public operas at affordable prices. The Sonnambula, on January 30, and Il barbiere di Siviglia, on May 15, will be seen in half price.
