The Bi Bala group has achieved great success in a short time, in just two years. His performances throughout Euskal Herria and his first album (Wasabi, 2014) have had a great impact, and they call them all the corners of Euskal Herria to perform their performances. No wonder, because in public they show humor, salt and pepper, and viewers spend it great, like the members of the group themselves. All performances are different and have special guests depending on the place.
The components of the team are Gipuzkoans: The Aitzol Barandiaran and Xabier Etxeberria Pitxu, the Oriotarra Iñaki Gurrutxaga and the neighbour of Alegia Julen Goikoetxea. Aitzol and Iñaki are bertsolaris, group singers, Iñaki also plays the guitar, Xabier the bass and Julen the drums. Bertsolaris have been active in several places and musicians have been part of groups such as Manillares Iturriaga, Desordu, Iratzar or Iratzar, among others.
On January 26, 2013, at the Bertso Eguna held in the Kursaal of Donostia, Aitzol and Iñaki sang from the melodies of the Beatles. The program was a success, and they were called from different locations to perform the same event. Aitzol and Iñaki were clear that they weren't going to offer that very thing, but they wanted to do something that would bring music and verses together. With Iñaki as a musician and Aitzol as bertsolari, they came together with Xabier and Julen and created the Bi Bala project. The first performance was held in April 2013, and they are constantly making bertso-rock, as the members of the band themselves call it in their style.
They make musicated verses. Words are at the heart of the project. Direct, sharp and provocative. They use word games, they make criticism and self-criticism and they laugh at themselves.
The songs of our new album Eroyak show the character of the group. They act with vitality and joy, and also with joke and irony. Reflection of this is the image of the surface and the title of the disc: Our drivers (heroes, falls, madmen...).Contradictions is, for example, a hard review of the contradictions we can see in our day to day, and the song Ertzainak is a sarcastic hymn. They also make an elegant version of a song by the Catalan group Nueva Vulcano (Sagrada Familia).
The disc is light, it sounds very comfortable, it smiles in the mouth, and the melodies are pretty.
Karlos Osinaga has been in charge of recording, mixing and mastering, in the studies of Bonberenea. This summer, as always, has done these tasks in an excellent way.
The presentation will take place in Bonberenea on 17 October and will then take place in the gaztetxe de Azpeitia (23 October), the gaztetxe de Elorrio (6 November), the Doka room of Donostia (20 November), the gaztetxe de Anoeta (27 November) and the festival Ades bazterrak de Orio (28 November).
