In Biarritz, fourth edition of the Mintzalasai initiative
Mintzalasai wants to drive the use of Euskera in the streets, in playgrounds, in the bakery and in the work of Biarritz.Se focuses on the use, attractiveness and visibility, in the monolingual landscape, in a village where many merchants do not know Euskera, because it is not always easy to
do it in Euskera. However, those in Biarritz want to look for opportunities in the face of obstacles and think that they are more “than they expect” than
“few.” Mintzalasai started organizing in 2011. Large network participates in the organization. The programme is extended for seven days, with 70 appointments by Biarritz. The week is organized by 25 associations, 50 structures participate and about 100 people collaborate.
The Mintzalasai week will be held from 21 to 27 September. Each day they will work on a topic: 21: Tasting of gastronomy and wine; 22, training; 23, day of the child; 24, conferences, projections and debates; 25, meeting of languages and cultures; 26, dance; and 27, Basque in family and friends. without waiting for the work of the institutions, have given priority to what each can do to use the Basque Country and so says in the presentation of Minalastzai: “We know that current language policies are still insufficient to produce profound results. But without waiting for anyone’s whim, we can do a lot of things, starting to activate ourselves.”
