An applausible ending

The 14th/15th season of the Basque Orchestra is over and we were prepared with a programme full of enthusiasm for the last session. This session, elegant and worked, began with the coral work Aita Gurea of Aita Madina, so well known and beautiful. This sentient prayer, composed in Argentina in 1946, had a sweet and simple interpretation from the hand of the Orchestra and the Donostiarra Orpheon.
After that five-minute gem, we tasted another magnificent example of parishionous music: Gloria de Francis Poulenc, one of the most famous works of the French composer. This work is made for the choir and the soprano, and on this occasion the Ukrainian soprano Olena Tokar extended her luminous voice and expressiveness during the work, but above all in the third movement, Domine deus, rex celestis, where she actually made a dramatic and profound song.
And to end the session and time, one of the great examples of descriptive music: Fantastic symphony from Berlioz. In tribute to the tsar Nicolás I of Russia, in this unusual symphony of five movements, a series of visions and nightmares are described that give the symphony a special and imaginative atmosphere. The members of the Basque Orchestra performed a dynamic and adjusted reading. Once again, the understanding between director Jun Märkl and the group was demonstrated. We waited for the next season.
