Many people have the habit of consuming sugary drinks frequently and in summer consumption increases. But this consumption can have serious consequences, according to the journal Circulation of the American Society of Cardiology.

After analyzing data from almost 600,000 people collected in 30 years, the authors concluded that 184,000 people worldwide die each year from sugary drinks, of which 134,000 from diabetes, 45,000 from vascular diseases and 6,450 from cancers.

The highest mortality rates for this type of beverage have been recorded in Mexico and the United States. In the first, 405 people died per million inhabitants, and in the second, 125 victims per million.

76 per cent of deaths have occurred in poor and developing countries, and there are more sick people among young people than among older people.
