19 years ago, the magazine 'Maxixatzen', first edited, was published in Azkoitia (Gipuzkoa) for the first time. In the last six years, the association of the Basque Country Maxixatzen that manages the center has had its publication suspended. They stopped to reflect, the Basque association wanted to think about where to go. In 2009 the magazine disappeared and in 2012 the association made an analysis of the situation of the Basque country in the locality. Among other issues, people were asked why media were being bought and read on the Internet. The media that consumed the most were El Diario Vasco and El Mundo Deportivo. Azkoitiarras had Spanish-language media readings, and according to the study results, they had foreign cultural references. According to data from 2011, 74.5% of azkoitiarras are Euskaldun and 12.9% are almost Euskaldun.
The Association has seen the need to revive Maxixatz. Although monthly periodicity will be distributed free of charge for several months, it will then only be received by members and partners. Moreover, the website www.maxixatzen.eus has been launched, with the intention of accessing daily life.
