The Basque Language Public Agency and the Basque Coast Hospitals have signed an agreement which will last for three years. The EAP will grant them a grant of EUR 3,000 in the first year, EUR 2,000 in the second and EUR 1,000 in the third year. In the hospitals, among others, in the ones of Baiona and San Juan de Luz, the aim is to promote Euskera. The signatories to the agreement believe that language can be an important vector for integration and trust.

Both the oral and written paragraphs will take action. As for the writing, the signs will be placed in Basque, the web will be translated into Basque and the prevention campaigns will also be carried out in Basque.

As for the use of oral language, they will work with those workers who know how to speak Basque (much or little). They will be provided with resources to use the Basque language, and, among other things, will be offered training. Although the agreement has been signed between the EEP and the Hospitals of the Basque Coast, the Hospital has been promoted by the volunteer group of Osakidetza Euskaraz. Hospitals will identify staff trained to work in Euskera and, if desired, they will be able to use Euskera knowledge accreditation cards. One of them will have the motto “Euskaraz mintza gara gara” and the other “I am learning Euskera”.

The director of the Hospitals of the Basque Coast, Michel Glanes, believes that the therapeutic use of language is the right one: “There are times when you have to address any motivation to be cured or to live, and for that it can be good.”
