Towards a new Catalonia
Over two million votes in favour of a political future; and 80% in favour of independence. They have taken an important first step with enthusiasm, emotion and responsibility. Congratulations!
How in such a short time is this revolution of consciousness? Two other feelings have been added to the awareness that came from Franco, to the feeling of linguistic and cultural oppression, in recent years: that of political and economic humiliation. The Statute approved in the Parliament of Catalonia with 120 votes in favour and 15 against was the subject of mockery in Madrid, “brushed”, and they have realised economically that they give the State much more than they receive back.
These three strong feelings have reinforced and united two large groups: Political representatives with a large parliamentary majority, and a large people, Omnium Cultural – an institution for the consolidation of the Catalan language and culture (1961) – and the ANC – the movement to achieve independence in a democratic and peaceful way (2012) – are raising awareness. How important in this movement is the creation of leaders such as Casals - Forcadell and Fernandez-Junõ-Mas? What about the waves of citizenship that activate those two political-cultural institutions? Response available to the reader. The fact that the Spaniards are breaking the chains imposed by taxation does not automatically mean that it will automatically reduce the economic and social inequalities of citizens and widen democracy – a process that can help to achieve a fairer society – to see how the economic measures imposed by the European Union – not forgetting EE.UU – and to combat the growing power of multinational companies from all over the world, but how beautiful it is to see a united society!
From our watchtower, we can only wish to see a complete break in the chains of slavery and to take steps towards a fairer society and a wider democracy, both for solidarity and for the sake of our political freedom, in the hope that it will also be easier for us if the Catalans are now ahead of us.
