The Business Council for Competitiveness, which brings together the 18 largest companies in the State, has presented a plan with economic and institutional measures that would generate 2.3 million jobs by 2018. There are currently some 4.5 million unemployed in the State worldwide. The unemployment rate stands at 24%, while the unemployment rate stands at 11%. Just last week the data for October were known: 80,000 more unemployed, of which 2,098 are in Hego Euskal Herria. In Gipuzkoa (Candy) and Álava (Cablenor and TCA), several companies are expected to close during the same week, which will result in hundreds of jobs being lost. For its part, the European Commission expects economic growth to fall below 2%.
In particular, it is the big employers and bankers who promoted labour reform who have made this commitment to job creation. This reform has resulted in the temporality, precariousness, flexibility and mobility of new jobs. What new jobs do you want? How do the hourly contracts and the miserable wages apply to the fellows in their companies? These economic policies, designed to respond to the wildest capitalism and executed by governments, are not models for creating decent and stable jobs.
The proposals of this elite of companies and banks have no credibility. If they publicly committed themselves to maintaining decent employment in their companies and to eliminating precariousness… Or if they put some of their salaries and diets to employment policy… On paper, you could put anything, for example, to put the jobs created to be 5 million. What they've announced is advertising, they're sorcerers, and they're taking millions of jobs out of their hat, and they're not finally going to be created. These wizards will continue with millionaire salaries, allowances and benefits, at the expense of unemployment.
