Delicate, suggestive, full of details, extraordinary: The film LOREAK, by Jon Garaño and Joxe Mari Goenaga, premieres this week and you will be able to amortize each of the lows of the entrance if you go to the movies.
Nor did he enter the Official Section of the San Sebastian Film Festival, dispelling the doubts of the most skeptical. The film with readings of very different levels is one of the best things we've seen this year.
Ane will start collecting flowers every week and will not know who sends them. With this simple starting point, and using everyday elements, they have created a film that gives what to think about the relationships of couple and family, of memory and of grief, with a realistic approach but with small ruptures of everyday life.
The flowers structure the story, acquire a polysemic character, sometimes provoking the curiosity of the characters, sometimes the feeling of danger and always the excuse for the story to flourish. The use of this kind of resources can force certain situations, but it is not the case: everything goes as smoothly as those delicious slow zoom the film has.
At times the planes that touch precisism offer the spectator a naïve aesthetic experience. An aesthetic attitude that has reached the level of narrative justification, without excesses, and in this film like almost all things, balance is the predominant in the treatment of the image.
If I have a rod (we have already put more flowers than those in the film) Egoitz Lasa and Itziar Ituño in some dialogues did not seem credible enough.
Moreover, the characters are well-structured, make interesting evolutions by passing the weight of the film from one side to the other and the whole story is presented as well wrapped as the lily finals we will see on the screen.
Those of us with the feeling of having discovered two directors to take into account after seeing it in 80 days, we have seen in this Loreak the second firm step of a route that we hope will be long and fruitful.
