Shikimikoa
Likidanbarrak (Liquidambar styraciflua) anbar likidoa ematen duen bezala, beste gai askoren iturri ere bada. Tartean, bere hazietatik sortzen den azido shikimikoarena. Izen xelebre hori japonieratik dator, shikimi deitzen dioten izar itxurako anis landare japoniarretik (Illicium anisatum); landare horretan aurkitu eta bakartu zuten, lehenengoz, azido hori.
Azido shikimikoa landareen osagai biokimiko garrantzitsua da. Landareen bizitzan beharrezkoa da, eta aspaldi honetan baita geurean ere. Botika eta gai kimiko askoren aitzindaria da: Tamiflu antibirusa, azido salizilikoa, resberatrola... Adibidez, antibirus horren hamalau pilula kaxa egiteko lau kilo inguru likidanbar hazi behar da. Eskea etengabe hazten ari da eta gero eta landare gehiagotatik sortzen da azidoa: pinuak (Pinus sp.), izar itxurako japoniarra ez beste anixak (Illicium sp.)...

Horrela landarea, soja, artoa edo dena delakoa bertan izanagatik lasai erabil daiteke herbizida, baita dosi aberatsagoan ere. Transgenikoa horretarakoxe prestatua dago, glifosatoz bustiagatik, azido shikimikoa egiten jarraitzeko gai da. Orain negozioa bikoitza da: belar-hiltzailea eta hazi transgenikoa etxe berari erosi behar... Amerikako Estatu Batuetan soilik 2007. urtean, hor nonbait 95.000 tona herbizida saldu zuen.
