The CEO of San Sebastian 2016, Pablo Berastegui, has been introduced and everyone has been convinced that we would have a little peace of mind with the accounts of cultural capital.
The news has resulted in the response of several Twitterists:
@Joseba Alvarez: “Pablo Berástegui does not know Euskera and therefore does not know the Basque culture directly. Shame!”
@Kaltzakorta: “The mayor of San Sebastian says that the director of San Sebastian 2016 does not know Euskera and that he is still “the most appropriate”.
@Umerez: “I’ve been boiled by the knowledge that the new director of Donostia 2016 doesn’t know Euskera.”
@Batistezeiza: “Person who does not know Euskera, new director for @DSS2016. Unanimously and with the approval of the City Hall. Take Ya!”.
@TBKultura: “The new CEO of Donostia 2016, Pablo Berástegui, in his presentation stressed the need to regain confidence in the project.”
Therefore, we are once again confronted with a conflict: given the gravity of the issue, interest groups and the media that have been marking 2016 will jump to the collate of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Sure.
It is to be assumed that, as Itziar Nogeras insisted that he did not know English, they will also start to scare because our beloved Basque is not going to try the language of the new master and commander of the old bonberos residence.
Or maybe not. Perhaps what matters is knowing English and the lack of linguistic competence of Who cares Berastegui. Four or five Euskaltzales – Basque fucking Talibans – will only look like, let’s say, a useless topic to put some lines on a blog.
Sortu spokesman Hasier Arraiz has described as "error" that Berastegui "cannot speak in Basque".
Asked about the issue, Berastegui pointed out that “we must be generous and open so that the Basque Country is in Europe naturally”.
As reported by the City Council of Donostia-San Sebastian to El Diario Vasco, the Basque Country will continue to be the focus of the project for 2016. The City Hall has recalled that in the office of the cultural capital all the staff know Basque, except for some advisor.

Life surrounds everything, it is limited and fragile. To live good lives, it seems to me that the body knows what to do, while the mind, although it knows (when it is well informed), often sees the body deliberately silence. In this silence the mind opens itself to relations... [+]

Today, the voices of women and children remain within a culture that delegitimizes their voices, silencing their experiences, within a system aimed at minimizing or ignoring their basic rights and needs. A media example of this problem is the case of Juana Rivas, but her story... [+]
