In the California valley of Death Valley there is a lake called Racetrack Playa, which is usually dry and covered with water periodically. Once they dry again, the stones in the area make a trip of several meters, leaving traces clean. Many hypotheses have been made to explain the event.
Finally, the mystery, a part of it, has been illuminated by two American researchers. The research began two years ago and the fruit has come the least expected path. In 2011 they marked several stones and in December 2013, when they went to see their position, they realized that part of the lake was a thin layer of ice. At first they didn't give it any special importance, but in the early morning, as they slept there, they were able to understand the mystery, after hearing several clicks. If the morning sun was starting to melt the ice and at that time there was wind, the stones were moving a little bit. If the phenomenon occurred on numerous occasions, the trace of stones could be several meters.
One of the stones made a trip of 224 meters for two years and another was filmed while it was moving. However, the hypothesis proposed does not fully explain the movement of all the stones that the researchers had marked. The mystery is therefore not yet fully clarified.
