The recent discovery of the New York Psychiatric Institute by Jeffrey Lieberman has raised hopes for people fighting autism.
According to Lieberman, if there are too many nerve connections in the brain, autism occurs. At birth, children have many interconnections of this kind, but they typically decrease as they grow up. This is not the case for autistic individuals: their interconnections are maintained, which generates an overload of information in the brain. In this way, the information cannot circulate correctly.
The Lieberman team has pointed out that the reduction of these interconnections should lead to substantial improvements in the state of autistic people.
