Basque group in Azpeitia? Is that necessary? More than one has asked the creators of the group this question, at least as Eneritz Albizu, a member of the group, told us. According to data from 2001, 87.8% of the Azpeitiarras are Euskaldunes, 7% are Quasi-Euskaldunes and 5.3% are Castilian parasites.
In the interview for Argia.com, we asked Eneritz Albizu why they created the group and answered us as follows: “It is seen that Euskera is in a good situation, it is also used in the street, but we see that there is a lack of awareness on the part of the citizens. We use Euskera and we live here in Euskera, because it's normal. If we were born in Barakaldo or anywhere else, I have doubts about how we would, both in Basque and in Spanish. We don't do it in Basque because we feel it's our language. Since we were young they have given us this way, in school, in the street, we have learned that and we do it without thinking about it.”
They want to activate the individuals, who realize that the Basque needs to be cared for; that if you do not have a clear mentality about the language, you can lose the Basque.
A sign of Albizu's lack of awareness is the respiratory workshop they organized together with UEMA: “We met about ten people, in a village of 14,000 people.” But they also took advantage of their workshop. There, the idea of creating the group was partly taken up. So far there are six members of the association, all under 40 years of age.
They have not made any formal presentation, they have been made known through action. Last week the campaign was conducted to translate names and surnames to Euskera, and 118 applications were collected. In this sense, they undertake to develop initiatives that encourage individuals to make commitments in one way or another.
