Gaindegia, the observatory for the economic and social development of the Basque Country, has finished on 29 May ten years gathering and structuring the Basque Country. It was friends of different colors who created the Gaindegia in Donostia, but despite that, they had a lot to do. They wanted an organization for the whole of the Basque Country, overcome the sectoral divisions, to promote knowledge and debate on structural and strategic issues for the development of Euskal Herria. It consisted of three axes: To make a socio-economic photograph of the Basque Country; to encourage reflection and debate; and to facilitate the creation of networks to overcome the administrative division.
Despite the difficulties, after ten years, Gaindegia has its own and recognized character, and an increasingly stable technical team. Their services and speeches are increasingly important in society. Thanks to this, today it is possible to better understand the real photograph of the socio-economy of the Basque Country. Gaindegia offers the means to know the economic and social characteristics of the Basque Country. Those responsible know what needs to be done, the reflections and debates that should be in the ways of articulating the Basque Country in the economic and social spheres have weakened.
They have committed themselves to making available the necessary tools to deal with the major changes that are taking place in the Basque Country, in neighbouring countries and in the world. For all these reasons, on the tenth anniversary it is up to us to congratulate Gaindegia, and we wish him to continue to make the most complete picture of Euskal Herria. That the institutions recognise and pay for the work they do.
