From 26 to 31 May, the Alhóndiga de Bilbao will host the International Meeting of New Scenic Forms 3, 2, 1. It will complete in this edition the second of the three editions, and like last year, it will bring together the most innovative and risky international proposals. Rather than harmonizing the disciplines of performing arts, these companies tend to break their borders.

The interaction between disciplines is the current trend of the performing arts. “Only the organizers try to classify the artistic proposals,” says Fernando Pérez, programmer of the Alhóndiga: “The artists themselves are much freer. Each one is based on a discipline, but from it they get in and out without any complexes.”

To the extent that performing arts are living arts, they are based on live experiences and even though they use audiovisual media, they are unrepeatable, as they change every time they are represented. Many of this year’s proposals have the idea of experience as a motor. That is, they turn viewers into actors, “they give them the opportunity to be face-to-face with the artist or, although it seems a contradiction, they allow them to listen to the dance,” explains Pérez.

As an example of interdisciplinary mixing, the dance performance of Marie-Caroline Hominal should be highlighted, as well as the masterclass or course run by it itself. He usually creates individual and couple jobs, such as Le triomphe de la renée, which he will present at the Alhóndiga. If we forget the formats and turn to the contents, Marie-Caroline Hominal is concerned about the transformation, and that is the subject he will discuss in the course.

The Portuguese group Casabranca will offer a live performance theatre exhibition, Atlas Bilbao. Over a hundred billionaires will participate in this assembly. Atlas Bilbao is a poetic work by Ana Borralho and João Galante, both with a wide experience in performances and theatres. Departing from the body and the word, they are interested in the individual and collective work of the participants. They've already formed a lot of urban atlas. These include the destinations in Rio de Janeiro, Basel, Helsinki, Milan and Brussels, among others.

The Brussels group Plastique Fantastique presents the Ojo de Polifemo, which is presented in Brussels. It is not the first time he has done so in the Alhóndiga. They are experts in provisional architectures and in this edition will place special emphasis on the giant eye of Polifemo. In addition to perspective, Plastique Fastique’s team will discuss the boundaries between fiction and reality and between the public and the private.

The Basque creators will also have their place in the Meeting, among others, Mrs Larive. Polaroiska and Elssie Ansareo, and the laboratory of Ion Munduate. The sound maps of Ainara LeGardon and Xabier Erkizia will also be available on the BEC website of Barakaldo. “The proposals of Basque artists are as current as those brought to us by international companies,” says Fernando Pérez: “In fact, some of our creators work in international circuits, while others, despite their quality, have difficulty starting their international journey.”

One of the objectives of this meeting is to build bridges between artists from Euskal Herria and professionals from other countries so that they can show and share their different artistic codes. In this sense, “we want to help bring together international professionals from different fields: programmers, artists, choreographers, performers, media, festival directors, dancers, etc.”.
